TAFC goals: Charlie Thomson, Alex Holmes
Match Report:
Chalfont Wasps 1 Tring Athletic Reds 2
Scorers: Charlie Thomson & Alex Holmes.

Defensively outstanding the boys finally get what they deserved.
From the start, this game looked like it would be a hard fought, competitive match, with very little to choose between the sides. Chalfont were clearly a capable footballing side, strong in defense, very neat passing in midfield and strong, aggressive running up front - we matched them all over the park. It was a half of few chances, with Chalfont edging it, mostly as a result of the free-kicks that we gave away.

At half-time we spoke of the need to stay competitive, move the ball faster and continue to play with energy and desire.

The second half continued similar to the first. We conceded far fewer free-kicks and limited Chalfont to very few opportunities. Tring took the lead on 54 minutes, when Jake floated a corner onto the edge of the penalty area and Charlie volleyed into the top corner 1-0 Tring. We seemed to lose some composure after going ahead and got punished on 62 minutes when Chalfont scored after a well worked move down their left-hand side. Unconcerned, we continued to push on, winning challenge after challenge. We were rewarded almost immediately following a move involving a brave challenge from Macca, a slick pass wide from Selwyn and an excellent cross from Con that found Alex in the box 2-1 Tring. The rest of the half was simply a fight with chances for both sides (lucky Michael). In the end we ran out 2-1 winners (despite 5 minutes of added time from the referee).
At the end I explained to the boys that the result was 100% deserved and was a culmination of all of the hard work through summer pre-season and some hard-fought loses through September and October. I am delighted that we used all 5 subs this morning, with no drop in energy or desire. We are developing a squad of players to play in the top division of under 18s football and everyone made a contribution today. Steve and I are very happy.
