SCORELESS BORE-DRAW AGAINST THE HEATHENS

A match that lacked quality from either side petered out to a seemingly inevitable goalless conclusion. Chances were few and far between as both keepers could have taken an armchair, pipe and slippers on to the pitch and would still have come away with a clean sheet.

In defence of the players, the pitch was hard, the ball bouncy and on a pitch that drops away into the far corner, just like good-old Cow Lane. In those circumstances though, it stands to reason that 50 yard passes are going to be impossible to gather and/or will run off into the distance. Why both sides insisted on hoofing it long is a bit of a mystery. With no natural left-footers anywhere to be seen, the killer cross, taken to the by-line and whipped into the feet of the on-rushing forwards, remained on my wish list.

The one clear chance of ours was around 70 minutes when Frankie Hercules dragged a left-footed shot wide when well-placed but, in fairness, neither side deserved to take the spoils.

With not much to say about the match, a word about George Carbery. George has been an almost ever-present throughout the season. His energy and enthusiasm are infectious and it is remarkable that he still finds time to have his frequent rants at the referee. He truly is the teams talisman.
