FA Vase - 2nd Qualifying Round
FC Deportivo Galicia 1-4 TAFC First team
TAFC goals: Chris Blunden (4)
WE HAVE LIFT OFF!
With jumbo jets soaring overhead, aviation terms seem apt. So, lets get them out of the way early. We ignited our season with an emphatic victory, soaring to a season high with a turbo blasting four goals from Chris Blunden. Enough.
Definition of a predator someone who attacks and plunders for gain. Well, that perfectly described our number nine yesterday. Goalscoring is an instinctive ability you either have it or you dont. Predatory strikers come alive when they are eye-to-eye with the opposition goalkeeper and they invariably come out on top. Well done Chris more of the same please.
However, my big shout-out today goes to an unassuming member of the team whose consistency gives him the nickname of Mr seven out of ten. It is Harrison Cornick who goes about his job in an unfussy but highly effective way. Have you ever seen him skinned by an opposing winger? I havent and yesterday was just another example of his importance to the team.
We turned the tables on our opponents after 30 seconds, we having conceded early several times already this season. Its great to be one up guys and we puffed out our cheeks from that moment on. 2-0 up at half time. Credit to Cameron Brooks and Kieran Turner for unleashing the predator for these goals.
We were coasting throughout the second half, although it should be acknowledged that our step 6 opponents had plenty of possession and plenty of territory. Our defence, bolstered by impressive new signing Harry Seabrook, looked in control. But it wouldnt be Tring Athletic without a stressful afternoon and, true to form, we conceded with ten minutes to go and we had visions of another Long Bucky late goal and penalty shoot-out. Not to be though, as the predator sealed the win with two more goals, the last from the spot.
Hoping for a juicy home draw in the next round, but really the primary aim is to turn this kind of performance and results into league victories, starting next Saturday v Crawley Green
