Spartan South Midlands Premier Division
TAFC First team 0-1 Harefield United
A lack of creativity and cutting edge in the final third cost us dear today. We looked solid at the back, with Harry Seabrook and Harrison Cornick outstanding in nullifying the renowned striking prowess of the opposition but we rarely threatened in attack.
It was good to see Cornick and Adam Sawyer back to stiffen up the defence and high hopes are placed on the young shoulders of Ronan Hutchins, on his first match back, returning to the club.
The best chances in the first half fell to Harefield and it was only some excellent keeping by Jake Alley which prevented them taking an early lead. Jake is proving to be a very useful acquisition. He battled on heroically despite taking a nasty head knock in a collision with a Harefield forward. Just when it looked like we had survived the half, and hopeful with the slope in our favour in the second, Harefield scored after 44 minutes, a goal which proved to be the only one of the game.
In the second period we had one decent effort when a George Carberry effort was well saved by the keeper but little else to show for our significant endeavours. One felt for Ollie Butler, ploughing something of a lonely furrow through the centre of Harefields defence.
This defeat is particularly worrying given that we now have three consecutive away matches facing us. That they are against teams in the lower regions of the league table puts even more of a focus as we do need to start picking up points quickly in order to avoid a late-season relegation scrap.
