TAFC First team 2-3 Leverstock Green

TAFC goals: John Smith (pen), Adiel Mannion

As previously mentioned in this seasons match reports, going down to ten men almost always ends in defeat. And so it proved yesterday as we gifted Leverstock Green the three points. It was going so well- 2-0 up after an hour and containing Levvie with some comfort such that we simply needed to manage the game through the final third to an invaluable victory.

Violent play, off the ball, is so unnecessary, will always be seen by eagle eyed officials, and will result in dismissal. A three-match player ban and a hefty fine ensues. What is the point?

And so our young side faced the prospect of a hungry opposition, smelling the scent and we were just not up to it. It was a period when we needed our senior players to step up to the plate and lead the whole team in game management but Levvie were just too strong.

Our performance in the first hour, given that we our squad has changed dramatically in the last few weeks and that players are still searching for cohesion, was thoroughly decent. Playing uphill, against a team in the top 6, we took the game to them and came away with two goals. The first a somewhat fortunate penalty decision and the second exposing Levvies lack of pace at centre back. Little did we know what was in store.

A bumper crowd of 190 witnessed an excellent spectacle of step 5 football and, given that we were just about the only match to be played, credit to Daryl for producing a decent surface. Neutrals would have gone home having had good value for their money. Of course, we are not neutral and we went home rueing one moment of madness.
