Friendly (behind closed doors)
TAFC First team 1-5 Hemel Hempstead
Firstly like to extend our thanks to Lee Bircham and his Hemel Hempstead Town squad and Officials together with everyone at Tring Athletic for putting on this our first pre season game .
Our opponents who are at Step 2 ( as opposed to our Step 5) were as expected, better in all departments but due respect to our lads after conceding 2 quite early goals they buckled down and played some tidy football. Having managed to keep the score down with a combination of hard work, good defending and in truth some bits of luck we conceded a 3rd before Adam Murphy headed home from a Wes Ireogu corner on 35 mins.
The quality of our opponents meant that our lads learnt more about defending and working hard off the ball in 90 mins than in numerous training sessions. The balls played into their forwards or behind our back line were of especial quality.
The second period we introduced 9 new players and our opponents in turn used a number of subs. Having been under pressure but coping reasonably we then conceded when their forward scored after a ricochet and then the best goal with a powerful strike .
We stuck to our task and created a couple of half chances. Fair play to Hemel ,they maintained the standard of play even when the victory was assured and the lessons learned will stand us in good stead for the forthcoming campaign.
We were also interviewed by Ian (Moose) Abrahams from Talksport Radio which doesn't do any harm.
We play Huntingdon Town F.C . In a double header with one game at 12.00 and another at 3.00 pm before hosting Max Mitchell's Walthamstow FC next Tuesday.
