TAFC First team 1-0 Wembley F C

TAFC goals: Stephen Ebonine
Athletic are back to winning ways as a first half goal by Stephen Ebonine against his former club was enough for all three points.

First of all, well done Darrell Bodimeade for making the pitch playable after the seemingly endless rain we've had. The pitch held up remarkably well.

We welcomed back Kev McManus and Stephen Ebonine which with due respect to last Saturday gave us more focus at both ends of the pitch.

Playing down the slope Wembley started brightly and played some neat football out wide and created what was their best chance after 10 mins when they beat our offside trap but fortunately for us missed the target. We looked a touch lethargic in midfield and too often failed to keep our shape off the ball.

After 15 mins we edged our way back into the game but in truth neither keeper was much troubled. There were poor deliveries from a couple of free kicks and corners but the defence started to look more secure.

On 36 mins Melv Nsomi on his first start chased a Callum Shortt, also on his first start, overhit pass, retrieved it and crossed for Ollie Butler, who headed towards goal. Ex-Wembley striker Stephen Ebonine scored the first of hopefully many goals for Tring Athletic, when the keeper dropped the ball. Score 1-0

The second half was bitty with neither side able to dominate. Gareth Terblanche drew a decent save from the Wembley custodian and Ollie Butler and Les Barkers-Obua got in each other's way to miss a header on the far post. Wembley had their share of the ball but a decent defensive effort restricted them to one half chance caused by a miskick and although we again made the odd poor decision and weren't good enough off the ball we had learnt from the last few games and we dug in to earn a hard fought win.

As ever no lack of commitment from everyone involved and after cementing second place we look forward to Dunstable Town away on Saturday.
