Scorers: Harrison Cornick, Dylan Whitehead & Tom Ainsworth
No long match report today.
This was our first Development Cup fixture, where Division One teams play a selection of Division 2 teams.
Quite simply, the boys and I fell far short of the standards we set ourselves.
In the early stages of the match we were well in control, despite that fact that the tiny pitch was always likely to be a leveller. We deservedly went ahead in 10 minutes (Cornick) and seemed well set for a comfortable victory. Windsor were rarely in our half, but scored an equaliser around 30 minutes and went ahead on 40 minutes - both from long balls that we didnt deal with.
Half Time Windsor 2 - Tring 1
Windsor scored 5 and 10 minutes into the second half and from there we were chasing the game. We gave ourselves a chance on 62 minutes with a nice strike from Dylan W. At 4 - 2 with 30 mins to go, I thought we had a chance however Windsor scored just 3 minutes later and, as we pressed, they continued to find opportunities, running out 7-3 winners, with a consolation goal from Tom A on 87 minutes.
Final Score 7-3
Firstly, the boys must not get despondent - this result is mostly about how I set the team up and the decisions I made. In an attempt to give all of the boys as much football as possible, I made too many changes during the game. These changes disturbed the continuity of our play - asking a lot of the boys coming on and the team on the pitch. I was wrong to assume that we would be strong enough to absorb all of these changes and overpower Windsor - won't be doing that again.
In terms of our play, it is completely understandable that the boys are a little inconsistent at this stage in their development, 3 great weeks, followed by 1 pretty poor performance - we will get back to training next week, using this 'dose of reality' to re-double our efforts to improve our fitness, sharpness and decision making.
