MAGNIFICENT SEVEN FOR US WITH ASHTON AND KIERAN GRABBING HAT-TRICKS

This was Tring our opening match in this prestigious national competition this season and after a tentative first half came out emphatic winners, with hat-tricks for skipper Kieran Turner (for the second week running) and the hard working Ashton Campbell. Between them they have scored 30 goals already this season.

The game was played on an excellent playing surface and we had the better of the early exchanges. However after only 8 minutes Boro created the first opportunity when Shaun Wilkes was played through the middle but our young debutant Patrick Sinfield in goal saved well.

We then created 2 chances one for Kieran Turner and one for Ashton Campbell that were easily dealt with by the home side. Neither side were dominant and we were finding it difficult to produce our usual flowing football.

Further chances were being created by both sides to no avail, but then a mesmerising dribble by Kieran Turner in the 27th minute saw him fire low and hard into the far corner of the net. Score 0-1.

Just 3 minutes later we made it 2 nil in controversial circumstances. The ball was played over the home defence for Ashton Campbell to collect and run towards the goal but he was then unceremoniously bundled over. The referee, without consulting his assistant immediately awarded a penalty. It looked very debatable and to compound things for the home side he also sent off full back Carlos Lewis, assumingly for being the last man and therefore preventing a goal scoring opportunity. Following a lengthy delay skipper Kieran Turner stepped up to fire into the corner of the goal. Score 0-2.

With 10 minutes left of the first half Mark Riddick's shot was well saved by keeper Justin Greatorex and then we won a number of corners and from one of these Ashton Campbell's header flew just wide. HT Score 0-2.

The second half began with the home side dominating play and you would not have known that they were a player short. Just 2 minutes after the break Adam Randall shot from distance but again Patrick Sinfield saved well. Further chances fell to Boro but we weathered the storm.

We then put together a terrific move. The ball was fed to Ashton Campbell whose shot was well saved, however the ball ran to Ben Johnson who somehow rather than find the open goal hit the post, but credit to him for being there from right back.

In the 59th minute we scored our 3rd goal. A quick break from defence by David OConnor saw him play a superb cross field pass to Kieran Turner who then ran at the home defence, then checked inside before finding his favourite side of the goal with a brilliant finish. Score 0-3.

We were in the ascendancy and following a run down the left by Kieran Turner his cross found Ben Johnson totally free in front of the goal, but he misjudged the flight of the ball and missed the opportunity. In the 78th minute Kyle Johnson, who had come on for Mark Riddick, fed Ashton Campbell but his shot flew wide. Ashton wasnt however to be denied. Just 2 minutes later a flowing move down the left found him bearing down on goal before shooting low and hard into the net. Score 0-4.

Further chances and goals were created and scored with Alex Campana firing into the far corner in the 84th minute. Then Ashton Campbells shot was dropped into the goal by the keeper 2 minutes later and then Ashton Campbell wrapped up the score and his hat-trick on 90 minutes. FT Score 0-7.

A great result and all round performance by the players and we now look forward to the draw for the third round on Monday. A special mention for young debutant keeper Patrick Sinfield who was terrific when required. The result does not take anything away from Wellingborough Town who acquitted themselves well and created a number of opportunities to score, even after having a player sent off and having to play with ten men for 60 minutes, so credit to them.
