TAFC Development team 3-1 Leverstock Green
TAFC goals: George House, Teddy Paul, Tommy Ainsworth
Despite missing 5 regular starters we were able to not only assemble a strong squad but also got our League campaign back on the road with a hard fought but well earned win over local rivals Levy Green. This hopefully augurs well for future competition for places.
The game served not only the purpose of providing valuable minutes for Chris Mason and Dave O ' Connor as well as Jack Sunderland but also allowed 5 of the U 18 team to feature to a greater or lesser extent as well as of course 3 valuable points.
Playing up the slope we generally controlled the play although occasionally forced passes or delays in moving the ball made it unnecessarily hard work.
After 20 mins a rampaging run down the left by Dave O'Connor resulted in the ball being pulled back for George House to smash the ball home with his left foot.
We passed up,a great opportunity when Teddie Paul ran onto a pass only to fire wide across the keeper and slowly but surely we allowed back into the game at least in terms of possession without keeper Luke Priestley really being tested.
Playing down the slope we began to push Levy Green back and by varying our game we asserted ourselves and took a big step towards the 3 points when Teddie Paul cut in and smashed a shot in off post and crossbar. Levy pushed on which left them susceptible to attacks on the break and we scored a 3 rd when Frankie Hercules who helped make the second goal, dummied a Euan Anderson cross for Tom Ainsworth from the U 17s to finish neatly for the first hopefully of many goals for Tring Athletic.
With 2 mins to go we gave away a goal which was the only disappointment of the day.
The entire squad of 16 played their part but Matt Stacey was outstanding,Will Gibson promising on his debut and the input of the U 18 contingent shows we're progressing in the right way.
Next week we have a sterner test playing Premier Division Flackwell Heath away in the League Cup.
