The players donned their bright shiny new kit for their first home League match of the season but failed to christen it in the manner they would have wished for. After a fairly even first half which ended 1-1 we showed uncharacteristic defensive frailties in the second period, shipping a further three goals to finish a well beaten side.
Hanwell finished one off the bottom of the Premier Division last season, lost their opening game at home on Tuesday night to newly promoted London Colney and in the previous eight encounters between the two clubs we had won six, scoring 20 goals whilst conceding just five. But a look at the team sheet should have dispelled any over confidence the players may have had as this is a completely new Hanwell side which featured just keeper Keiran Jimmy from their line up that that appeared against us back in March.
We started strongly and within the first few minutes we made two loud calls for hand ball in the area but on both occasions the referee turned down the appeals for penalties. Vinnie Iannone did superbly well to turn past his marker and appeared to be tugged back as he toe poked a shot over the bar. The visitors retaliated with a good move up the right but a subsequent shot from a Hanwell player was blocked by a colleague.
The visitors took a surprise lead in the 14th minute when a routine free kick was headed home from close range by Ton Duffy. It was well taken goal by the Hanwell Captain but our defence will be disappointed not to have dealt with it better. Score 0-1. The visitors had a great chance to wrap up the game within the next six minutes going close on two occasions. The first opportunity saw Charlie Baverstock come off the right wing and carve his way through the centre of our defence before laying off a pass to George Davis who struck his shot against the far post with the ball bouncing back in the grateful arms of Mike Underwood. Soon afterwards it was Davis again who found himself in a good scoring position but he scooped his effort wide.
We were playing some good stuff, trying to build from the back and keep possession. Hanwell nearly presented us with an opportunity in the 20th minute when a sloppy pass out of defence was seized on by Dave Whicker who found Vinnie Iannone who in turn shot just over. There was another call for a handball from our players and supporters but again the referee was not in a penalty giving mood. A minute before the half hour mark we won a free kick but Sam Mitchell's effort looked destined to be safely gathered up, but keeper Keiran Jimmy made a mess of it and it squeezed into the net to level the scores. Score 1-1.
Two minutes later Reon Thomas lobbed the keeper as he came off his line and was only prevented from putting us into the lead by a an acrobatic clearance from full back Tom Kennedy. The visitors bounced back with Charlie Baverstock in the thick of the action. He put in a couple of dangerous crosses which we did well to clear then he fired a shot wide from inside the area although the angle was very tight. Then Matt Jarvis powerfully headed a corner just wide but after a good half of football with both sides having their opportunities it ended all square at 1-1.

We posed an early threat after the restart when Tony Fields headed a corner which went straight at the keeper but any hopes we had of a victory were shattered in the 53rd and 54th minute when Thomas Jansons and Terry Smith fired shots past Mike Underwood. Score 1-3.
With the visitor's tails now well and truly up we struggled to keep in the game as Hanwell closed in looking for the kill. Further disaster struck in the 64th minute when defender Tom Duffy headed in his second goal, a carbon copy of the one he opening the scoring with. Score 1-4. We tried to get back into the game with Tony Fields creating an opening but shooting over. Our last roll of the dice came in the 73rd minute when Reon Thomas blasted the ball over from close range when normally he would have buried the chance. That just about summed up our afternoon and the hot weather seemed to drain the players and Hanwell walked away with a very encouraging win.

A disappointing afternoon and the players will want to bounce back quickly. Hopefully key players like skipper Graham Hall, defender Andy Hughes and midfielders Connor Waite and George House will be back for the forthcoming games against Hatfield Town at home on Tuesday then away at Ashford Town in the FA Cup (Preliminary Round) on Saturday.

1-1. But hope proved unfounded
as looping headers were cleared off the line,
artistic merit came to nought,
headers went wide
and shots went over.
