TAFC First team 2-1 Kingsbury London Tigers

TAFC goals: Anthony Fields, Brett Court
Athletic come from behind to grab 3 points against Kingsbury this afternoon. Tony Field and Bret Court were the scorers to put Tring joint top of the league.

In a hard fought game Athletic finally came out on top, although for long periods they were not at there best. Kingsbury London Tigers are a determined team and are capable of giving all the sides in the league a tough game.

Athletic welcomed back captain Graham Hall back into the side following injury and Mark Burfoot. From the kick off Athletic were on the back foot. All the possession belonged to Tigers with firstly Edson Cata and then full back Terence Cariba testing Athletics defences. Shortly after this Rehia Osagie collected a long ball only for him to shoot straight at keeper Mike Underwood in Athletics goal. A flowing move down Athletics left should have resulted in a goal, but Artiomas Barinovas could only fire into the side netting. Athletic were struggling to get into the game and Tigers again caused problems when a move, this time down the right, saw Athletic scramble the ball away. Finally after 20 minutes Athletic put a move together but Graham Halls cross was easily cleared. Minutes later Robbie Duncan and Tony Fields exchanged passes before giving the latter an opportunity, but his shot was saved by keeper Axinte Valentin. The first corner of the game went to Athletic followed shortly by two others which showed that Athletic were now coming more into the game. Tigers were dangerous from set pieces with number 8 Barinovas shooting high following a corner and then number 5 Marcus Lansiquot heading just past the post from a long throw. With all these chances it was no surprise that Tigers took the lead in the 41st minute. From another set piece, a corner, Edson Cata headed high into Athletics goal, Athletics players were looking at each other as he was completely unmarked. The first half ended with Tigers rightly in front and Athletic thankful it was only the one goal.

The early exchanges of the second half belonged to Tigers, with Barinovas again shooting wide and then Renars Zarchenko missing a golden chance following some excellent football down the left. In the 56th minute Tigers Lansiquot became the first player to be cautioned following a late tackle on Tony Fields. In the 59th minute Athletic equalised. A cross field ball was misjudged by full back Morris, the ball found Tony Fields in space who then shifted the ball onto his right foot before coolly placing his shot into the far corner. Tigers came straight back forcing two quick corners. In the 67th minute Tigers substituted Rehia Osagie with Wadah Ahmidi coming on. Full back Morris became the second Tigers player to be cautioned after handling the ball. Athletic started to assert themselves with Mark Burfoot heading over the bar from a long throw and then defender Brett Court heading them into the lead with a powerful header from a corner in the 72nd minute. Tigers again showed how resolute they were as minutes later Henry Emenike brought a great save out of home keeper Mike Underwood. Vinnie Iannone came on for Athletic replacing Darren Franklin and Tigers brought on Kye Hendrix for the injured Lansiquot. Tigers earned themselves two quick corners but thankfully Athletic defended these much better and easily cleared the danger. With ten minutes to go Tigers brought on Elton Almieda for defender Farhad Anvari but it was Athletic who were having the majority of possession. Athletic forced a number off corners and gained several free kicks following some tough defending. With time ticking away Athletic brought on Matt Myatt for David Whicker, however there was still time for Tigers Edson Cata to be cautioned for dissent and for Vinnie Iannone to force his way into Tigers area before pulling the ball back, unfortunately no Athletic player was there to place the ball into the open goal.

This was a difficult match and Athletic can be pleased with how they finished the game. Kingsbury London Tigers again proved what a good side they are, they could easily have won following all the chances they created. Although there were a few cautions it was played in a competitive spirit and was well officiated by the referee and his assistants.
