TAFC First team 0-2 Dunstable Town
Athletic were on the back foot against league leaders Dunstable Town when Henry Thomas was sent off after just 10 minutes after a poor tackle right on the touchline. The game had started at a furious pace and Athletic had a penalty appeal turned down in the 3rd minute when Neil Roberts went flying in the box. Graham Hall had also seen a shot fly past the post after a move between Chris Salmon and Ashley Addison set up the Tring skipper's chance. Dunstable's Russell Preston volleyed wide of the goal from the edge of the penalty area when a ball was half cleared by the Tring defence. Shortly after on 19 minutes Dunstable took the lead when Tring's goalkeeper Dave Clark saw his attempted clearance blocked by Terry Billy who then stroked the ball into the net. This was Billy's first touch having replaced the injured Aaron Flood. There were some strong tackles flying in and Dunstable's Lee Burgoyne earned a yellow card for such a tackle on Tony Field. Tring's Chris Salmon then followed him into the book for a similar offence. Tring's Manager Phil Casserley made a tactical substitution with Ashley Addison being replaced by Andy Mullins with Chris Salmon going into the back four. With 30 minutes gone Tring got caught trying to play the Dunstable forwards offside and when Terry Billy ran clear he had just Dave Clark to beat. Fortunately Dave delayed him sufficiently so that when Billy went past him Tring defenders had got back on the goal line but Billy blazed wide when he should have scored. Sub Andy Mullins hit a great shot on 35 minutes but Paul Taylor was equal to it. One minute later Neil Roberts again caused the Dunstable defence problems and rounded two players before being tripped and a penalty was awarded to Tring. Andy Mullins stepped up but his firm shot was high and wide hitting the crossbar and post and went wide letting Dunstable off the hook. Just before half time Mullins set up Matt Myatt and his cross was headed wide by Neil Roberts. The playing numbers were evened up just 3 minutes into the second half when Lee Burgoyne received a second yellow card for kicking the ball away and was dismissed from the field of play. The second half had very few goal chances and Tring edged the balance of play without really testing the goalkeeper. Dave Whicker a second half substitute came closest when he hit the side netting after a good run but little else of note happened until deep into stoppage time with Tring pushing for an equaliser their offside trap falied and Nick Jackson ran through and clamly side footed the ball past Dave Clark to make the final score Tring Athletic 0 Dunstable Town 2. These two sides meet at Creasey Park on Tuesday night and this is expected to be another closely contested match.
