TAFC goals: Joe Naylor
Hartley Wintney 2-1 Tring Athletic

When the Official asks you after the game quite how you failed to not only avoid defeat but win the game thus brings to life the expression about last straws etc.

Despite the journey being in excess of 120 miles there and back to their credit the entire squad were at the venue by 2.00 pm.

Playing up the slope we started very well and in reality should have had a penalty within 90 secs following a run into the area by Gareth Terblanche which was halted by what was at least a clumsy tackle . This did not seem to matter when after 10 mins we took the lead when Joe Naylor lobbed the keeper from 15 yards following good work down our left hand side.

For 20 mins we looked comfortable in possession on a very warm day and there had been no serious threat to our goal. The game got a bit too frenetic and a certain lack of experience in our midfield allowed our opponents to push us onto the back foot.
A massive hole appeared in our defence but a great save from our custodian resulted in a corner. Laziness allowed a 2 on 1 from the corner and this in turn resulted in another clumsy challenge in the area ,thus one was given and converted on 40 mins.

Playing down the slope we reassert end ourselves and dominated proceedings but a combination of sheer bad luck and in fairness dogged defending resulted in no further breaches of their defence.

On their one foray into our half following a breakdown in our attack and a sliced clearance, resulted in what proved to be the winner on 65 mins. Despite changing shape and personnel we failed to get the result we probably deserved.

It was a very long journey back.

We play Levy Green at home this Saturday and can afford no more slip ups!!!
