TAFC First team 1-4 AFC Dunstable
WE ARE READY FOR THE NEW SEASON

We completed our summer preparations on Saturday with our final friendly against AFC Dunstable, who last season made the Southern League play off finals.

We suffered our first pre-season defeat after some uncharacteristic defensive lapses saw us go 3-0 down after only half an hour. We recovered from this early set back to play some good football and to importantly give all the squad some game time. New signing Ashton Campbell scored our only goal after the break and we had other good chances that we failed to take with the game ending 4-1 to the visitors, who it has to be said had some regulars missing and will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with this season. We wish them all the best for the campaign ahead.

This defeat should not detract from what has been an impressive build up to the new season. We have retained most of last season's players and have added new signings Alex Campana, Ashton Campbell, Carl Menshah and Roy Byron to the squad. The return of Kieran Turner and the addition of promising youngsters Ehban Nancarrow-Martin and Billie Busari has given Ian and his team a much stronger squad to work with and there is cause to be optimistic about the forthcoming season.

We face some stiff games over the opening few weeks of the season starting with a Herts Charity Shield tie against Hatfield Town at The Grass Roots Stadium on Tuesday night. We follow that up with two home league fixtures, with newly promoted Baldock Town the visitors on Saturday 4th August and then local rivals Leverstock Green on Tuesday 7 August..

We then face another tough local derby when neighbours Berkhamsted, who won promotion to the Southern League last season, are our guests on Saturday 11 August for an intriguing FA Cup tie.

After Saturday's friendly Manager Ian Richardson said "With a good pre-season now done I am looking forward to the season ahead. The new faces have fitted in well and the squad is looking strong. Roll on next Saturday and let's see what this group can achieve".
