Holmer Green 3 Tring Athletic 0
Dissappointing away loss.
Another defeat in this disappointing season and this time to a side below us in the league all be it with games in hand. We had to field a changed side again and players in different positions but our hosts played like a well drilled team, although this was only their 8th game of the year, where as we were unable to re-produce our efforts against Berkhamsted last Saturday. We did have quite a few chances but all our efforts were well saved or defended with some solid defending. Holmer scored 3 goals for only the 3rd time this season.
We fell behind as early as the 6th minute when a quick break we failed to clear the ball and Tom Gant scored.
In the 13th minute Lewis Todd made a good save and the follow up was put out for a corner which Holmers big Centre back Munday put well over the bar. Holmer had the ball in the net again in the 16th minute but this was ruled off side.
A minute later George Carbery went down in the box but the referee waved away the half hearted appeals.
Max Hercules was getting in some good crosses and he found Jack Sunderland but He was unable to get any power in his strike and this was easily blocked and cleared.
In the 24th minute a short corner from Sunderland to Hercules. His cross was well met by Mark Riddick but Aaron Brown made a good save. The following corner was met with a good strike from Luke Little but again the home keeper saved.
Holmer were quick to break and in he 26th minute, a shot from distance from Kotwica deceived Todd and ended up in the net to give the striker his first goal for the club.
Munday hit a free kick into our wall and then Tommy Twelve went on a good run but his final effort was blocked.
On 36 minutes, Sunderland went on a good run into the box , he stayed on his feet from a desperate challenge but shot into the side netting.
We were getting into the game more and an attempt from Luke and several crosses from Max were dealt with by the home keeper
HT 2-0.
51 minutes and Holmer break again but some good pressure from Tommy Twelves and and the striker shoots wide.
Holmer were now putting us under pressure but we broke and Carbery fed a good ball to Little. The home keeper saved his shot but spilled the ball and got to the follow up but took a blow for his efforts.
On the hour mark, a foul on Max resulted in a free kick which was put into the box. Carbery went down and Little shot over but all appeals for a penalty were waved away.
Hercules then went on a good run beating several players but his shot lacked pace and was easily saved.
Chris Vardy replaced Steve Nott-Macaire on 63 minutes and James Shaw replaced Carbery 8 minutes later.
We kept trying to get something from the game and brought on Jack Read for Sunderland, but the home defence were well marshalled and in the end it was Green who scored again. A free kick was fed out to the left and a suburb cross was met by the tall James Britnell to beat Todd and give the striker his 8th goal of the season . Their top scorer!
We go again on Saturday when we make the trip to London Colney. Another ground where we have struggled in the past.
