ANOTHER DISAPPOINTING DEFEAT

There is no way we can dress this up as anything other than a dismal night played in front of our smallest crowd of the season, just 46 spectators. Just like Saturday we conceded a goal in each half and failed to score in response. We have not been big scorers in the league but we have been strong defensively and had one of the best records in the Premier Division but in the last three games we have conceded 9 goals whilst finding the net just once and our once positive goal difference is now minus 9.

Its not like the players didn't try or care, they worked hard and competed strongly but our downfall was individual mistakes that presented Wembley with easy scoring opportunities and we were fortunate that they only took advantage of two of them.

The first goal arrived in the 36th minute and came about because we gave the ball away far too easily in midfield and right back Ethan Tyrer ran through a huge hole in our defence to score with a fierce shot. Dave O'Connor and James Butler both had heading opportunities but failed to hit the target and we reached half time just a goal down. HT Score 0-1.

Nine minutes into the second half we lost the ball in a dangerous position yet again and Tyrer was on hand to grab his and Wembley's second goal. There was still a lot of playing time left but it was already looking like mission impossible. Score 0-2.

Regrettably there was an unsavory incident around the hour mark which resulted in a red card being shown to a Wembley player and we have to be honest and say we were lucky that one of our lads wasn't given his marching orders as well. That was followed by another opposition player being sent off at the end of normal time for an off the ball incident and although we were facing just 9 players we still failed to put away some chances that came our way late on. FT score 0-2.

This was an extremely frustrating and disappointing night and although we will have Luke Dunstan back from suspension (and boy have we missed him in midfield) there seems little prospect of key injured players like Elliott Goward, Tommy Twelves and Chris Mason coming back soon. To add to the problem there doesn't seem to be any replacements on the horizon either.

So we face a big challenge especially as confidence amongst the players is clearly at a low ebb so we need to show some character in the games coming up.

We still remain in 16th place, 6 points above bottom placed Stotfold so we have some breathing space but we desperately need to start picking up some points soon.
