Rolling back the years (posted Sat 4th May 2013)
Athletic "legends" came out of retirement on Friday night to beat Berkhamsted 6-1 at Broadwater. Tring dominated possession in the first half and went into the break 1 up thanks to a Gary Langdale volley from a corner. Berko played better in the second half but Tring's midfield class shone through to pull all the right strings, racing into a 4 goal lead before the home side pulled one back. Tring scored 2 further goals to complete the rout. The Tring side included Keith Eldridge, Grant Mosley, John Perry, Neil Foskett, David Foskett, Julian James, Gary Langdale, & Ian Ranger, who must have played at least 3000 games between them for Tring. There were 2 familiar faces playing for the home team in former Athletic manager Phil Casserley and midfielder Lee Groves.
We hope to arrange a further game in September so any current / former players over 35 please get in touch.

Thursday nights (25th) St Marys Cup Semi Final against Hemel Hempstead has been cancelled as Hemel have advised us "that due to the amount of injuries picked up at the weekend and again last night that they are unable to fulfil the fixture. Hemel have their final league match on Saturday and then have the possibility of play off's the following week and feel that they cannot put a side out that would do the competition the justice that it deserves". This withdrawal has not yet been ratified by the West Herts League and were it to stand then that would meet local rivals Berkhamsted in the final. Ladies Team (posted Fri 8th Mar 2013)
It is with great regret that we have taken the difficult decision to withdraw the Ladies Team from their league following our failure to fulfil the league fixture last Sunday through the lack of available players. It was thought that following the signing of some new players in January, the return of others and a better allocation of pre and post-match administration duties, that we would be able to see out the season and review the position in the summer but unfortunately this has not been the case. We thank all those that have shown commitment in difficult circumstances this season and obviously those that have been with us for a number of years and enjoyed their football.

Ladies in need of HELP - TRAINING SESSION TO GO AHEAD (posted Fri 25th Jan 2013)
Our Ladies team have become desparate for new players following the departure of one or two and a number of injuries. The Club is holding an open training session on Sunday 27th January at the Miswell Lane ground (for directions go to "Links / Club Information" on club website - www.tafc.co.uk) commencing at 1pm so anyone who is more than 16 years old and interested in joining the club should come along. Berkhamsted Vets 0 Tring Athletic Vets 5 (posted Sat 9th Jun 2012)
Ian Ranger gathered together nearly all of the successful side from 1999-2000 when they won 5 trophies in a season to meet Berkhamsted at Ashlyns School in an eagerly awaited fixture. From the start Athletic had Berkhamsted on a back foot with Ranger and Andy Mullins up front and Tony Mendicino, Jamie Robbins and Gary Langdale controlling the game. It was no surpirse when Ian Ranger ran through to score with a well placed shot to open the scoring after 20 minutes. Both sides made early substitutions and the scores remained level until half time. With Mullins off at half time and Ranger dropping into midfield it was the turn of Steve Johnson and Stewart Dye to come on and lead from the front both scoring two goals each to take Tring's total to five. Tring's Tony Mendicino also had a penalty saved in the second half. An enjoyable afternoon watched by a large Tring following. TAFC Team: Keith Eldridge; Neil Foskett, Ian Butler, Matt Strange, John Perry; Dave Foskett, Tony Mendicino, Jamie Robbins, Gary Langdale, Ian Ranger, Andy Mullins : Andy Playle, Jamie McBeath, Steve Johnson, Stewart Dye and John Taylor. Reserve Team Management Changes (posted Tue 15th May 2012)
The Club is very pleased to report that a “new” Management Team has been appointed for the Reserve Team that will play in the Suburban Football League Season 2012-13.
Following Jerry Dimond’s decision to step down, due to family and work reasons that means that he feels unable to give the level of commitment required to run a team at this senior level, Colin Phillips, who has run the team with Jerry, will be joined by Ian Richardson and they will jointly run the team for the coming year. Ian comes with a wealth of experience having managed and coached at a number of senior clubs and most recently with close neighbours Tring Corinthians where he was First Team Manager. Colin and Ian will be joined by current player, Stuart Stedman, who has made 410 appearances for the club and runs his own coaching business “Football Fever”. Stuart hopes to continue giving his playing experience to the team whilst providing important coaching and guidance to his younger team mates.
Training for the season 2012-13 will start on Thursday 28th June and new players are welcome to attend these sessions to be held at The Grass Roots Stadium, Cow Lane each Tuesday and Thursday thereafter. Any queries can be directed to Club via email to tringathleticfc@hotmail.com

Tring Athletic Football Club recently held their end of season Presentation Evening and the following is a summary of the awards presented following another very successful season.
First Team Managers Julian Robinson and Tony Armitage can feel very pleased with their first season in charge as they finished as the “top” side in Dacorum in 6th place in the Spartan South Midlands Premier League and this was a great achievement having lost seven of last year’s side. Spirit of Tring 2012 Date Change (posted Wed 9th May 2012)
Following slow ticket sales Grass Roots have taken the difficult decision to postpone the event from 2nd & 3rd June to new dates of Friday 21st September (Cool Britannia) and Saturday 22nd September (The Great British Proms) and the event will move from the football pitch to the Pendley Activity Meadow.
All ticket buyers are being informed of the situation and Grass Roots will honour all ticket purchases across to the new dates and anyone not able to attend then Grass Roots will happily refund their money.
Whilst this may be inconvenient for some it is hoped that the event will now be bigger and better with higher attendances as it will not clash with Jubilee Celebrations.
- see our events section for more details.

New First Team Manager Appointed (posted Tue 7th Jun 2011)
The Club is pleased to announce that it has appointed, the current First Team Coach, Julian Robinson to succeed Phil Casserley who has decided to step down after 4 successful years leading Athletic to Cup successes and also their highest ever league position. Phil’s departure is for family and business reasons and is very amicable with the Club leaving the door open for Phil to return in some capacity at a later date.
The Club is very grateful to Phil for his hard work during his period when he built a side that just missed out on promotion this season, with their highest ever league position, and had cup success by winning the Herts Charity Shield, Spartan South Midlands Challenge Trophy, Spartan South Midlands Premier Division Cup and the St Mary’s Cup twice.
Looking to the future Julian maintains continuity in team management, has had two spells as First Team Coach and very successfully managed London Colney Football Club in Division One of the Spartan South Midlands Football League. Julian successes at London Colney were: -
§ Winners of the Herts Centenary Trophy
§ Winners of Spartan South Midlands Division One Cup
§ Finalists in the Spartan South Midlands Challenge Cup, losing on penalties
§ Third place in Spartan South Midlands Division One and narrowly missing out on promotion to the Premier Division.
§ Good F A Cup and F A Vase runs.
Julian has the full support of the Club’s Committee who are delighted that he accepted their offer to manage the Club.
Training for the new season will commence at the beginning of July and any new players are invited to attend, please check website www.tafc.co.uk for details. The First Team have two excellent pre-season friendly matches arranged when they play Slough Town on Saturday 23rd July and Wealdstone on Saturday 30th July at The Grass Roots Stadium both kicking off at 3pm.

Jerry Dimond the current Reserve Team Manager is looking to add to his management/coaching team for the coming season and is seeking someone who has local football knowledge, coaching qualifications would be helpful but not essential, and someone who is keen to perhaps step up a standard. The Reserves play in the Suburban League North Division which does involve some travelling but there are also many local matches. Support Cancer Research with Brett (posted Sat 20th Nov 2010)
As some of you may be aware, Tring Athletic centre back, Brett Court is currently fashioning a rather ridiculous mostache. This new found facial hair has not come from a desire to look more stylish, but to support a movement to recognise the memory of a truely inspirational student from his secondary school in Amersham. It is with great sadness that Amersham School lost talented 16 year old student and
Footballer Aaron West to cancer at the start of this month. It was a very rare and radical form of cancer which only became evident in February this year. Aaron fought hard through Chemotherapy and regular trips to hospital, and continued to study for and sit his GCSE examinations. Aaron achieved 6 grade A's including an A in Physical Education where his exam had to be sat at home as he was too sick to get into school.
His hard work and brave attitude to face this illness has been inspirational to many. His dream had been to develop a Goalkeeping academy to support the footballing dreams of all ages in his local area. His parting dream has the full commitment of his father and Wycombe Wanderrers Football Club, but will need support to initiate and get up and running.
When the idea was put to Brett (Aaron's PE teacher) to grow a mostache in aid to support this cause, he was keen to spread the word.
There will be representatives from Amersham School collecting in support of Aaron's dream at Tring's final home game in November against Hadley (Saturday 27th November) for Brett's last game with his mostache. All donations of any size will be most welcome.

"Where were you on May 15th 2010?" (posted Mon 17th May 2010)
This is the question that many will ask for years to come, because if you were not at Tring Athletics’ football ground, thanks to the generosity of David Evans MBE and his 30 year celebration of his Grass Roots Company you will have missed what was accurately advertised as ‘The biggest party Tring has ever seen’
All who attended ‘The Spirit of Tring’ were treated to a spectacular feast of top class entertainment as the West End was transported to the picturesque surroundings of the Grass Roots Stadium Pendley.
Local Soul band -Soul Fish warmed up the audience of over 3,300 before a full philomonic orchestra and a rock band backed the singers from the West end extravaganza ‘’We will Rock You’’ as they went through a repertoire of Queen classics. The show continued with classic pieces usually performed at the ‘Last night of the proms’ and headed by Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans, before a fire work show brought the event to a close. Local sports clubs and schools provided refreshments throughout the evening and all profits and gate receipts will be generously donated back to the participating organisations.
Well done David Evans, Grass Roots and all involved in this magnificent event.

Damage to Miswell Lane (posted Fri 2nd Oct 2009)
After several attempts vandals decided to set light to the Miswell Lane Club house and have caused substantial damage resulting in the boarding up of the premises and making the bar and social area unusuable. Insurance assessors will be visiting the premises very shortly but we expect that this area of the club will remain closed for some months. The changing rooms are unaffected and can continue to be used for matches. We were fortunate that a member of public reported the fire early enough for the local fire crew to be able to contain the fire which in a worse scenerio could have affected the local houses. Anyone with any knowledge of the recent events are requested to contact the club or the police.

Berkhamsted Town (posted Tue 13th Jan 2009)
The following sad news has been taken from Berkhamsted's Town's website - "MEMBERS VOTE TO WIND UP THE CLUB
On Monday 12th January' at an EGM of members at the Town Hall it was resolved to wind up the club. Attempts to save the club have failed. It is expected that the club's record will be expunged from the league tables of the Molten Spartan South Midlands Premier division and the North division of the Suburban League.
Future football at The Broadwater stadium depends on who leases it next from Berkhamsted Sports Ground Charitable Association Limited. Ben Terry, a supporter of the old club is investigating setting up a new club that might operate as early as next season. He has a meeting lined up with the ground's owners. Those who wish to support that venture can contact him on 07779 352562."

At the same time Mike Thompson, current Reserve Team Manager, was approached by Croxley Guild who play in the Herts County League to become their First Team Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for Mike as he lives in Croxley Green and to run the first team in any club is a great challenge. Mike has accepted this job and goes with our blessing and thanks for his 18 months in charge of the Reserves where he has introduced many of the Youth Team to Reserve team football this season. In the same breath we are absolutely delighted to have Ben Williams back with Club and he has been appointed as Reserve Team Manager with immediate effect. Ben is an experienced player, a qualified Coach running Academy teams at Wycombe Wanderers and knows the Club well from his time with us and we wish him every success.

Grass Roots in the Top League (posted Mon 3rd Mar 2008)
Last Thursday evening (28th February), at a glittering assembly of the best of British business, Grass Roots UK was once again listed in the Top 100 companies to work for.
This poll, run by The Sunday Times, assesses the views of our people on a wide range of issues, from leadership, personal development, employee care, to work for the community and environment.
In last year's table of the Top 100 mid-sized companies, we were 98 and, as The Sunday Times so nicely put it, "Grass Roots has sprung up our list from 98 last year to 53 for 2008".
This success is a great tribute to all the staff on the three sites we now have in and around Tring. Success is hard earned and requires above all things diligence. My thanks go to all the Rooters for their many and varied parts in keeping faith with the ideas and for the energy and inspiration shown.
Many congratulations to David Evans and his team from TAFC.

Tring Tornandoes JSC boost attendance (posted Sat 16th Feb 2008)
The First Team match versus Colney Heath was sponsorsed by Tring Tornadoes JFC who boosted the crowd to 223, the best this season. Tornadoes had two penalty shoot out competitions for different age groups and despite a lack of goals an entertaining game was seen by hopefully a number of future Athletic players. Tornadoes provide netball and football for children in age groups from under 6 to under 16 and many of Athletic's players are former members of TTJFC.

Tring Athletic Cricket Club (posted Mon 16th Jul 2007)
Tring Athletic lifted their second trophy of the season on Sunday in the 6 a side cricket tournament. Athletic got off to a good start winning their first 2 league matches confortably beating The Anchor and The Bell B. In our 3rd match we restricted the Conservative Club B to 44 runs but the heavens then opened and in wet conditions we were unable to pick up the vital runs. Finishing second in the mini league we then lost a bowl off against the rugby club for the best runner up. This put us into the secondary competion to face the Conservative club A in the semi-final. Another win put us into the final to face the Bell B which we won by 15 runs to lift the Plate. Team; Ian Butler, Gary Mosley, Keith Eldridge, James Livingstone, Dave Livingstone, Chris Parker, Ben Moorehouse & Lee Groves.

Neil Gowers (posted Tue 13th Feb 2007)
It is with our deepest regret that we announce the sudden death of Neil Gowers today following a tragic accident at work. Neil was an ardent Athletic supporter and was a regular at our games with his friend Mike Stark and their sons. He also supported the club in other ways by advertising in the programme for a number of seasons. He was strongly involved with Tring Tornadoes and ran the Under 12 side in which his young son Harry played in. He was always a happy jovial person with who you could share a joke and he was very popular. He will be hugely missed. We extend our deepest heartfelt sympathies to his wife Jill and their children Harvey, Courtney and Harry.

Phil Casserley appointed as Manager (posted Wed 7th Feb 2007)
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Phil Casserley as First Team Manager and Terry Nightingale as Assistant Manager/Coach to replace Mick Eldridge and Ray Brimson who have decided to retire at the end of the season. Mick and Ray will be a hard act to follow as in 17 years they have claimed 12 major trophies plus other honours. Mick will remain as Treasurer and the club hope that Ray will also stay on in some capacity. The third member of the team Richard Vincent will stay on as Club Coach.
Phil, 41, is a well known and highly respected young manager with a record of achievement. He was part of the successful management team at Berkhamsted Town Reserves that won the Suburban Premier League in Season 2000/2001 and the Herts Intermediate Cup in Season 2001/2002. The Suburban League title was a significant prize as they had to compete against Clubs of a much higher status. Phil then carried his winning ways over to Gossoms End where in addition to picking up many local trophies they claimed the ultimate prize of the FA National Sunday Cup where they defeated Albion Sports from Bradford 3-2 at Anfield in April 2005.
Terry is also a well known and highly respected person from the local area. He played for Hitchin Town FC and St Albans FC before reaching 500 appearances for Berkhamsted Town FC. He will be a valuable asset for the club working alongside Phil.
We are delighted that Phil and Terry will be taking over the reins and they have every confidence that they will continue the success achieved by Mick, Ray and Richard. Phil has recognised the Club has a good team of players and he hopes to bring in some new faces to strengthen and refresh the squad rather than make whole sale changes.
