First Team Update from Manager, Julian Robinson (posted Sat 27th Sep 2014)
Just thought I would write a bit of an update to the start of the season as things have now settled down and the season is well under way, having now played almost a quarter of our league games we sit in a good position in the league, and are currently unbeaten in 8 league and cup games since our frustrating home 4-3 FA cup defeat to Holmer Green. This run was capped by a terrific 9-0 win at Stony Stratford in the week, When we looked excellent in what could have been a really tricky midweek away game.

The Reserves have settled well into the new league, they have been mainly on the road in a very lopsided early fixture list but they will benefit from a good few home games in the next few months. They have coped very well in the Premier Division and hopefully as a few of the injured players return to fitness they will have some excellent players to choose which will in turn strengthen them for the games ahead.

We have all started well with a good preseason behind us. We have recruited well and only lost our captain Graham Hall who sadly chose to hang up his boots, and Matt Jarvis who joined Sun Postal, two big influences in their own ways for the teams over the recent seasons. We would like to thank them for all there efforts for Tring Athletic.

Despite these departures, we have strengthened the existing squad in both numbers and most importantly with some quality young players, we have added a number of new faces with Greg Deer returning from university, Michael Green re-joined from Oxhey Jets, Matt Evans joined us in goal, Luke Dunston from Leighton Town, Sonny Aird from Northwood, Kevin Mcmanus joined from 61fc in Luton, Ryan McMahon from university and Nick Holden joined us along with our most recent recruit Keiron Turner who signed from Berkhamstead. All of these signings have greatly reduced the average age of the first team squad and hopefully we can add one or two more to the squad to keep the competition for places keen.

Finally a number of our supporters have asked me over the weeks for updates on the injured players, I have never known an injury list like it with at least six of our players having such serious injuries that they have/will require major operations.

Andy Hughes had an serious ankle op on the ligament injury he sustained in the St Marys cup final in May 2013 and has tried to return but is considering retirement due to the weakness in the ankle and work commitments, we would really like him to stay involved with the club in some way.

Rob Duncan is awaiting an ankle operation on an injury that has dragged on from last season, the ankle has been scanned and he needs to have an amount of floating bone removed, he is just waiting a date for the op and hopefully he can return to action quite quickly after.

Jack Sunderland has an operation on his leg he ruptured his ACL in January 2014, the injury wasn’t initially picked up, he was finally operated on in June this year and he is well on the road to recovery but looking at April 2015 for a return.

Dave Salmon after having a full ACL reconstruction on one leg in 2012 he sustained another serious injury on the other leg last season at Biggleswade United, he has just had another MRI scan and is currently awaiting the results of the outcome.

Jack Seaton was injured in a pre season game, after returning from holiday, he has had a MRI Scan which has shown serious damage to his ACL, this we fear may need surgery, he is awaiting a further appointment to see the specialist, and await news and his return date.

Vinnie Iannone has had a clean up operation on his knee cartilage, staggeringly it was also discovered that he has no ACL, it would appear this may have happened up to four years ago. The doctors have advised him he can play on once the cartlidge operation heals as it appears he has been playing for four years without the ACL, we could be looking at mid October at a return.

George Tomlin was injured at the end of last season in the away game at London Tigers when he blocked a cross with his knee, He damaged his ligaments /cartlidge and is just about to start a return to training and should be playing very soon.

Nick Holden was again injured in a pre season game, he has sustained damage to his knee ligaments, we are hoping he is about to return to training in the very near future and return to competitive action shortly after.

We really hope to see all the players back at the club and playing as soon as possible, its sad to see players injured and has been a tough time for them, some still have a way to go but fingers crossed they come back to join us soon.

Hopefully this will give you an insight into what is going on behind the 16 that make the squad each week and the reasons why players aren’t around or selected, we have the F A Vase next week hopefully we can push on and enjoy another Vase run as we did last season.
