Team of the Month April 2012 (posted Wed 16th May 2012)
The First Team who had a great end of the season have been awarded "Team of the Month" for April which is great achievement reflecting all the hard work that Julian Robinson, Tony Armitage and the team have put into the final stages of the season. Congratulations to them all. Crawley Green were Division One winners and Risborough Rangers Division Two winners.
Reserve Team Management Changes (posted Tue 15th May 2012)
The Club is very pleased to report that a “new” Management Team has been appointed for the Reserve Team that will play in the Suburban Football League Season 2012-13.
Following Jerry Dimond’s decision to step down, due to family and work reasons that means that he feels unable to give the level of commitment required to run a team at this senior level, Colin Phillips, who has run the team with Jerry, will be joined by Ian Richardson and they will jointly run the team for the coming year. Ian comes with a wealth of experience having managed and coached at a number of senior clubs and most recently with close neighbours Tring Corinthians where he was First Team Manager. Colin and Ian will be joined by current player, Stuart Stedman, who has made 410 appearances for the club and runs his own coaching business “Football Fever”. Stuart hopes to continue giving his playing experience to the team whilst providing important coaching and guidance to his younger team mates.
Training for the season 2012-13 will start on Thursday 28th June and new players are welcome to attend these sessions to be held at The Grass Roots Stadium, Cow Lane each Tuesday and Thursday thereafter. Any queries can be directed to Club via email to tringathleticfc@hotmail.com

Brighton Bike Ride (posted Sun 13th May 2012)
Our Club Secretary, Bob Winter, has forgotten the pain he enjured when completing the London to Brighton bike ride last year to enter again this year along with his sons Tom and Jack (who both help in the kitchen on match days). Bob is raising funds for the British Heart Foundation and would welcome sponsorship and you can support him by donating via www.justgiving.com/BobWinterBikeRide

End of Season Awards (posted Sun 13th May 2012)
Tring Athletic Football Club recently held their end of season Presentation Evening and the following is a summary of the awards presented following another very successful season.

First Team Managers Julian Robinson and Tony Armitage can feel very pleased with their first season in charge as they finished as the “top” side in Dacorum in 6th place in the Spartan South Midlands Premier League and this was a great achievement having lost seven of last year’s side. A mixture of young and experienced players served the team well and

This season's awards went to:-

Manager's Player – Matt Jarvis
Players' Player – Chris Salmon
Supporters' Player – Matt Jarvis

The Reserve Team, who play in Suburban League North Division, finished mid-table in a very competitive league and Captain Kerry Gordon received the Players Player and goalkeeper Nick Law was voted the Manager’s Player of the season.

Under new management of Dave Adamson and James Bevan the A Team had a very strong finish to the season ending up in 5th position in the Premier Division of West Herts League, announced that Player’s Player went to Rob Lear whilst the Managers' Player was given to the very consistent Glenn Sizer.

The B Team had a good year in the West Herts League Division 3 and Players Player was awarded to Ashley O’Brien and Managers Player went to Stephen Alford who travels from south London every week to participate.

Youth “A” Team - Players Player went to Mike Owen, for the second successive year, and the Manager's Player was Jack Sunderland.

Youth “B” Team – Had a great season and were undefeated in the league although just lost out on the Championship due to number of drawn matches. Both the Players Player and Manager’s Player went to goalkeeper Sam Shearman who looks a great prospect for the future. The Youth will play in the Southern Counties mid-week floodlit league next season on a Wednesday night.

The Ladies team had their best ever season becoming Champions in North London Ladies Football League for the first time and also reached the Herts County Cup Final when they lost to the superior Arsenal Ladies side. The Player’s Player went to defender Claire Hollingsworth, second successive year, the Manager's Players award was won by Sophie Green. The Most Improved player was goalkeeper Sasha Tucker and Club Person was Player Manager Sally Green.

The Committee voted for their Club Person of the Year, and this year Richard Vincent was a very worthy winner of this prestigious award reflecting some 22 years with the Club as Player, Coach to all teams including the Ladies, organiser of two Quiz Nights a year for the past 20 years raising thousands of pounds for the Club in addition to all the other sundry duties/tasks that he volunteers to undertake.

Appearance awards were handed out to:

400 Club: Stuart Stedman (410)
Ladies 150 Club: Sophie Green (163) and Tam Dunn (153)

Awards and thanks were given to a number of people who help behind the scene including Match Day Catering team, Gill Eldridge and Sandra Foskett who provide the sandwiches/boardroom refreshments every week, Dee Wells our Kit Lady, Colin Sturges whose excellent action pictures appear on our website and in the local paper and Darrell Bodimeade for providing the best playing surface in our league.

Pre-season planning is underway with friendly matches organised against Hullbridge Sports, Hendon and Slough Town.

Spirit of Tring 2012 Date Change (posted Wed 9th May 2012)
Following slow ticket sales Grass Roots have taken the difficult decision to postpone the event from 2nd & 3rd June to new dates of Friday 21st September (Cool Britannia) and Saturday 22nd September (The Great British Proms) and the event will move from the football pitch to the Pendley Activity Meadow.

All ticket buyers are being informed of the situation and Grass Roots will honour all ticket purchases across to the new dates and anyone not able to attend then Grass Roots will happily refund their money.

Whilst this may be inconvenient for some it is hoped that the event will now be bigger and better with higher attendances as it will not clash with Jubilee Celebrations.
- see our events section for more details.
